Pride at MoonStone MPLS: Events, Workshops, and Community All June Long

Pride is not just a month for us. It is woven into what MoonStone is every single day. But June gives us a reason to turn it up, to fill the calendar with people and practices that reflect the full, wonderful breadth of our community. This year we are doing it all: workshops that challenge the way we think about tradition, crafts, fundraisers for organizations doing real work for queer youth, and a gallery wall that belongs to everyone who walks through the door. We are feeling the growth energy this summer, and we want you to be part of it.

June is always a meaningful month at MoonStone MPLS, and 2026 is no different. The shop at 3304 East Lake Street in Longfellow, Minneapolis is celebrating Pride all month long with workshops, art installations, community fundraisers, and visiting artists and facilitators.

Queering Workshops

Queering is the practice of re-examining and challenging traditional norms around gender, sexuality, and identity. Throughout June, Thursday night workshops at MoonStone will explore this theme through a rotating lineup of facilitators. Topics include Queering Ancestor Work, Queering Tarot, Queering Astrology, and Queering Ritual. Sessions run from 6 to 8 PM.

Craft and Astrology Series

Wednesday evenings bring craft-based workshops including Pride beeswax candle making with Ashley, zinemaking with Hidden Magic Studio, and bracelet making with Bruhadacity. A Tuesday Astrology 101 Series meets weekly, covering the signs, the planets, and practical approaches to astrological understanding. All workshops are open to beginners and provide a space to ask questions, share observations, and build friendships within the MoonStone community.

Community Fundraisers

MoonStone is dedicating two weekends in June to fundraising for local organizations. From June 12 to 14, 20% of sales will be donated to Reclaim, an organization supporting LGBTQ+ youth. From June 26 to 28, 20% of sales will go to Queerspace Collective. Shopping at MoonStone during these weekends is a direct way to support the broader queer community in Minneapolis.

Art Installation and Coloring Gallery

The gallery wall at MoonStone is getting a new installation this month, featuring work by Ranebo, host of the monthly Trans and Nonbinary Spirituality Circle. Alongside that, the shop is hosting a community Pride Coloring Sheet display, featuring artwork designed by ritual facilitator Brink Starlilypink.

Drop off your completed coloring sheet at the store to be part of the gallery wall and pick up a Pride Prize package. A coloring station is set up in the shop for anyone who wants to sit down, create, and cool off.

Getting into the LBA business directory felt like something more than a listing. I had worked for businesses in this neighborhood for over a decade before I ever had my own. Sitting in a room with people I used to work for, realizing I was now their peer, was one of the stranger and more meaningful moments of this whole journey. Southwest Voices covered us that same fall, and it felt like a real welcome, not just a mention, and a huge surprise to see my face on the cover of this semi-annual resource!

Redesign did not just give us a building. They introduced us to a neighborhood that was already paying attention. When Jessie reached out to write this piece, we had been in the space for less than a year, and I was still getting used to saying "our Longfellow location" out loud. Being featured as part of what Redesign is building on East Lake Street felt like being officially counted among the people who belong here. This one meant a lot.

Making Magic and Meaning in a Queer-Centered Space

Burnout is something I think about a lot, partly because I lived it and partly because so many people who walk through our door are carrying it. When Megan reached out for this conversation, I was not sure how personal it would get. Turns out, pretty personal. We talked about what it actually looks like to build a business around wellness when you are still figuring out your own, and why closing the shop one day a week is one of the best decisions I have made. This episode surprised me with how much ground we covered in 30 minutes.

MoonStone is Moving to Longfellow

I moved to Longfellow in 2013. I worked at Blue Moon, at Milkweed, at Geek Love Cafe inside Moon Palace. These are the businesses I grew up in as a retail person, and the neighbors I made became some of my closest relationships. When I found the space at 3304 East Lake, it did not feel like a business decision. It felt like going home. Longfellow Whatever covered the move before we even had the keys, and reading it back now, I remember exactly how it felt to finally be able to say: we are coming to East Lake Street.

People always ask how MoonStone started, and the honest answer is rocks. Lake Superior Agates, specifically. That childhood habit of picking things up off the ground turned into a career I could not have predicted, and this interview with Voyage Minnesota was one of the first times I got to tell that story start to finish. It captures MoonStone in its earliest chapter, before the move, before Longfellow, when we were still figuring out what we were building and who we were building it for.
