People always ask how MoonStone started, and the honest answer is rocks. Lake Superior Agates, specifically. That childhood habit of picking things up off the ground turned into a career I could not have predicted, and this interview with Voyage Minnesota was one of the first times I got to tell that story start to finish. It captures MoonStone in its earliest chapter, before the move, before Longfellow, when we were still figuring out what we were building and who we were building it for.

MoonStone MPLS is a queer-owned metaphysical and curiosity shop in Minneapolis, and this Voyage Minnesota feature introduced Brenna Wernersbach to a wider Twin Cities audience at an early and important moment in the shop's story.
Brenna opened MoonStone in December 2023, taking over the former Eye of Horus space on West Lake Street in Uptown on less than a month's notice after the beloved shop of 20 years closed. The mission shifted from advanced spiritual practice to something broader: a space where the natural history museum meets the metaphysical shop, welcoming collectors, curious beginners, and everyone in between.
Brenna's personal relationship with the store started the way it does for many customers, with rocks. Picking agates on gravel roads and riverbeds turned into visiting crystal shops, which eventually turned into working at one. At MoonStone, stones and crystals sit alongside fossils, meteorites, taxidermy, and natural curiosities, with pricing that keeps collections accessible to first-timers, not just collectors.
The shop also carries a wide selection of tarot and oracle decks, astrology books, incense, candles, and tools for exploring intuition and inner knowing. MoonStone reflects its founder's background in both science and wellness, and makes a visible, active effort to be a welcoming space for queer and trans people.
